I will use this image on the contents page of my magazine. This image fits the conventions of a real sports magazine as they usually show an action shot on the contents page to give the reader an insight into what they can expect from the magazine and to entice them to read on.
I will use this image on the main double page spread in my magazine. This fits the conventions of a real sports magazine as when an article focuses on a specific player (like the article on my main DPS will) action shots of that player are always included the show what they are capable of on the pitch.

This screenshot shows me setting up the photoshop document I used to create my front cover. I used these dimensions as it would lead to me making a magazine that is more portable and easier to distribute at football matches and sports venues. The dimensions were originally stated in my magazine proposal and they have not changed since then.
Front Cover
When creating my front cover I have followed the conventions of an actual magazine to make my magazine look more realistic. My cover line is in a large, bold font near the bottom of the page and it is coloured to contrast the main cover image. My main cover image features a large portrait shot of my cover star, similar to that of almost all sports magazines. I have added a banner at the top of the page to advertise other articles that will feature in my magazine, a similar banner can be seen in the example of an actual magazine (right). I have also added a plug on the right side of the page to advertise one of my magazines articles in a more eye-catching way than a banner. I have also added a number of cover lines, some of which also feature an image relating to the article, on both sides of my page to catch a potential readers eye and show them what they can expect to find in my magazine. A similar graphic can also be seen in the real example I am comparing against.Contents Page

When creating my contents page I have followed the conventions of an actual magazine to make my magazine look more realistic. I have added the release date of the article in a 'housestyle coloured' box at the top of the page so it is clear to the reader what issue it is. My subheadings have also been highlighted in 'housestyle coloured' boxes to make them stand out and to make it easier for the reader to distinguish between the sections. I have highlighted the page numbers of key articles (such as my main article or other articles that were advertised on my front cover) in a 'housestyle coloured' shape to make it clear to the reader which articles are the most important and to make it clear where to find the articles that they have seen advertised on my front cover. Finally, to further follow conventions of a real football magazine (such as the FourFourTwo example shown above) I have included a screenshot of one of my double page spreads. This is done to show the reader the format of the magazine and what they can expect from the articles featured in the magazine.
Double Page Spread

When creating my double page spread I have followed the conventions of an actual magazine to make my magazine look more realistic. I have added a large image of my cover star that takes up two thirds of one of the pages. This follows the conventions of a real magazine as the use of large images like this are often seen in FourFourTwo magazine (see above). Lots of sports magazine add an image of whoever the article is focusing in in the middle of the article itself so the text flows around it (see example). In an attempt to follow the conventions of a real magazine I have added an action shot of Joe in the middle of my text. Finally, lots of double page spreads have a border on at least one side to stop them from looking boring or empty. This usually consists of a strip of colour that is connected to the slug. Again, in an attempt to follow the conventions of a real magazine I have added a border to each side of my double page spread. They are connected to the slugs to make the pages appear more professional and they are coloured in red is this is the main colour seen throughout the article (The footballer who my article focuses on is wearing a red football kit in all the photos on my double page spread.
